Hormone therapy (HT) significantly reduces mortality in oestrogen-receptor positive breast cancer survivors, but unfortunately, nonadherence with therapy stands at ~50%.
Our client wanted to reliably understand the impact of an intervention on a nonadherent cohort of patients. The MARS-5™ was selected as the instrument to assess nonadherence at the start of the study and over time across the “intervention” and control groups.
MARS™, a Personia tool to help understand PSP effectiveness, was used to screen and triage women to identify those at need of adherence support.
Women that met a pre-defined threshold on MARS™ were invited to take part in a digital adherence patient support programme. MARS™ was used alongside other PROs to demonstrate impact of the adherence PSP.
A two-armed, parallel-group, multi-centre randomised control trial with 254 women was completed. The intervention group reported significantly better adherence at all post-randomisation assessments.
The MARS-5 was able to detect a greater and sustained improvement in adherence in the intervention group compared with the control group, providing the client with insight on the relative impact of the intervention.
